Immediate action is needed to address the crisis in Bangladesh.

Following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ouster, reports have emerged of attacks on Progressive Muslims, journalists, and religious minorities in Bangladesh. These incidents include the killing of over 3,000 police officers, looting, destruction of homes and businesses, temple vandalism, and loss of lives. Allegations suggest that Mohammed Yunus’ administration and army personnel are directly involved. A strong message from the UN could pressure the interim government to address these issues, and consideration should be given to suspending all Bangladeshi Army participation in UN peacekeeping missions.

Message Body

As an advocate for human rights and a supporter of the Bangladesh Human Rights Watch (BHRW), I am writing to bring to your urgent attention the escalating crisis in Bangladesh following the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. There have been concerning reports of widespread violence targeting progressive Muslims, journalists, and religious minorities. These incidents have resulted in the tragic loss of over 3,000 police officers, rampant looting and destruction of homes and businesses, vandalism of temples, and numerous lives lost.

There are credible indications that the current administration under Mohammed Yunus, along with certain army personnel, are directly involved in these violent acts. The situation is dire and calls for immediate international intervention.

It is my firm belief that a strong and unequivocal message from the United Nations could exert significant pressure on the interim government of Bangladesh to address these grave concerns. Additionally, the UN should consider suspending all Bangladeshi Army personnel from participating in peacekeeping missions to underscore the seriousness of the situation and demonstrate a commitment to upholding human rights and international law.

Your prompt action and support in addressing this urgent matter would be greatly appreciated. The international community must stand together to protect the vulnerable and ensure justice is served.

Thank you for your attention to this critical issue.
