During the final trial run of the Padma Bridge Rail Link project, locals celebrated by chanting “Sheikh Hasina’s contribution.” On the morning of November 24, as the train passed through Vanga Railway Station and Kashiani, people enthusiastically shouted slogans in honor of the Prime Minister.
The trial train traveled from Kamalapur in Dhaka, passing through the newly built broad-gauge single-line rail track over the Padma Bridge, through Vanga Junction, Rupdia, and Singia stations, before reaching Khulna Station. The train, consisting of 12 carriages, departed from Dhaka at 9:10 AM and arrived in Khulna at 1:10 PM.
Train services on the Dhaka-Jessore-Khulna-Benapole route, crossing the Padma Bridge, are expected to begin in the first week of December.
Local resident Mohna Mukta expressed, “The people of southern Bangladesh will never forget Sheikh Hasina’s contribution. The path she showed for development will always be remembered, and even though she is no longer with us, we will continue to honor her.”
Another local, Habibur Rahman Suman, said, “Leader Sheikh Hasina, you are the crown on our heads. The entire nation awaits you. We will benefit from your contributions, and we will never forget you.”
Bangladesh Railway’s Director General, Sardar Shahadat Ali, confirmed the success of the trial run. “It took three hours and forty-five minutes to reach Khulna from Dhaka,” he stated.
Railway Secretary Abdul Baki mentioned that commercial train services on this route could begin in early December. Various railway officials and employees were present during the trial run.
The Dhaka-Vanga section of the rail line began operating last October, with five trains currently running on that section.
