Islamist protesters vandalized Prothom Alo’s regional office in Bogura on Monday night, continuing a series of attacks on the publication’s offices across the country.
The incident occurred on Rezaul Baki Road in the Jaleshwaritala area around 10:33 p.m. A group of 16-17 people arrived on motorcycles and threw stones at the office, breaking the digital signboard and glass panels. No injuries were reported.
CCTV footage showed the attackers arriving with two bags of stones, which they used to damage the office before leaving at 10:35 p.m.
Anwar Parvez, senior reporter at the Bogura office, said the team had been concerned about such incidents after similar attacks in Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, and Brahmanbaria. He said police were informed in advance but no security measures were provided.
He added that staff left the office early following advice from the local police to stay safe.
The attack followed an earlier incident in Dhaka, where Islamist protesters slaughtered two cows outside Prothom Alo’s Kawran Bazar office as part of a demonstration before being dispersed by joint forces. Other protests included prayers outside The Daily Star’s office, blaming the media for alleged foreign influence.
